Decorating Party: Turning that Community Center Into A Romantic Venue

By Annette Rozen

Let's face it, while all those bridal magazines talk about renting that castle or other romantic venue for the wedding reception, more often than not, wedding receptions are held at the local church, school or community center, for the simple reason that they are usually more reasonably priced than those beautifully photographed places advertising wedding receptions. However, just because your wedding reception is being held in an all-purpose hall doesn't mean that it can't be transformed into a beautiful and romantic wedding venue in short order. One fun way of turning that not so great community center into a fairytale ballroom for an evening is by having a decorating party. This party can consist of the bridal party or simply be a volunteer group of family and friends.

Plan In Advance

Plan your decorating party in advance and have several members who will take part in the decorating go with you to look at venues for the party That way everyone can see for themselves what the venue looks like and you can discuss on the spot where to place the tables, the gift table, the food, table and what kind of decorations may be needed to turn the venue into your idea of a romantic venue. You can also divide the tasks up and put people in charge of the wedding table decorations, guest table decorations and wedding favours, the walls and ceiling and various other tasks so that when it comes time to decorate each person will know what area they are in charge of and can plan accordingly.

Snacks and Beverages

Have snacks and beverages on hand for members of the decorating party and make sure you bring a camera so that you can take plenty of pictures of the decorating being done. If possible, decorate the night before the reception so that everyone can relax and have a good time while accomplishing their set tasks. If you must wait until the day of the wedding to decorate then make sure that you start early enough that everyone has plenty of time to return home and get ready for the wedding without having to feeling pressed for time.

What To Use

There is a variety of inexpensive things you can use to decorate the hall and change it from blah to magnificent. Candles, balloons, ribbon, paper, and tiny white string lights can all help to create a magical venue. Depending on the time of the year and your theme, you can hang things like balloons, Chinese lanterns, snowflakes, stars and even round flowers or light balls from the ceiling.

Having a wedding reception venue decorating party adds fun to the whole wedding for both you and your friends and with a little thought and planning will result in a fairytale dreamland for you and your guests to dance the night away.

However, don't forget to plan for the cleanup party as well, perhaps the decorating committee will agree to tackle this task as well. If so, it might be appropriate to give them a small gift of appreciation for helping to make your wedding day and evening so special.
